The SFSPCA promotes the welfare and well-being of horses, and educates the public on responsible care and ownership. We rely on volunteers to help us forward our mission. Ranch duties can be hard work, both emotionally and physically, but are extremely rewarding.

To Become An Official SFSPCA Volunteer,
Please Note:

  • You must have a current annual membership with the SFSPCA
  • The minimum age for volunteers is 12
  • Volunteers under 17 must be accompanied by an adult
  • Attending an Orientation and Horse Safety Class is required of all volunteers

  • All volunteers are required to become members of South Florida SPCA. For online form, click here. For mail-in form, click here.
  • A non-refundable membership donation is required and proof of membership donation must be received in order to reserve a spot in an orientation.
  • Volunteers must be at least 12 years old.
  • Volunteers under 17 years old must be accompanied by an adult. (Adults must register also.)
  • Special Notes: Incomplete information will result in registration delays. Space is limited and registrations may close early if the class fills. Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Online membership payment is the most efficient method, any other method such as mail or fax may result in registration delays.

  • Orientation classes are usually held on the third Saturday of each month from 10am to 2pm rain or shine.
  • Send an email requesting a spot in the next available orientation class to Michelle at michelle@helpthehorses.org
  • Volunteer Orientation registration will close when the class is full or at 5 PM on the Tuesday prior to the orientation. If you are not properly registered by that time, please register for the following month. Last minute registrations are not accepted.
  • You will receive a confirmation with map and directions to the Rescue Ranch on the Thursday prior to the class that you have been scheduled to attend.

  • Please print and fill them out, and bring them to class with you.
  • A parent or guardian must sign the forms for any volunteers under 18 years of age

  • You will receive a confirmation email from the SFSPCA

  • At the volunteer orientation, you will be instructed on the care and safety policies of our ranch. You will receive a certificate of completion and a Horse Safety Manual.
  • Upon completion of the Volunteer Orientation/Horse Safety Class you will be eligible to volunteer for Ranch Hand duties and other volunteer activities.

Upon Completion Of The Volunteer Orientation / Safety Class

  • You will be eligible to volunteer for Ranch Hand duties and other volunteer activities.
  • You will also receive one volunteer t-shirt after you have volunteered four times at the Rescue Ranch. Additional t-shirts are available (for volunteers only) at $10 each.
