Upon the grim discovery of Susie and Justice, two near-death paint horses nailed shut inside a Miami Gardens stable without food or water for possibly months, we knew we were in for a long, expensive fight to save their lives. Once at our facility, the horses received immediate around the clock intensive care from our staff and veterinarian, and we simultaneously set up a fund (www.crowdrise.com/paintbucket) to help.

The response from people all over the world has been overwhelming. We set a goal of $10,000 for their care, which has been exceeded by thousands. The South Florida SPCA is grateful beyond words for the generosity of compassionate horse lovers who have made donations. We would like everyone to know that we will be using the goal’s overage to aid and support the other 65 horses in our care (please see our adoption gallery to view many of them.)
