FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(MIAMI, FL), July 9, 2013, 11:00 am (EST)

Late yesterday, Susie, one of two horses rescued from horrific conditions on Sunday,  took a dramatic turn for the worse.  Suffering from colic due to an intestinal blockage, she was placed on IV fluids and other medications.  Laurie Waggoner, founder of SFSPCA, stayed with her throughout the night monitoring her condition.  It is believed the blockage was caused by Susie eating sand, wood, and manure (feces) during her months-long confinement without food.

Susie’s attending veterinarian, Dr. Zachary Franklin of Templeton and Franklin Veterinary Associates, states that, “Susie suffered from colic yesterday.  It appears to have resolved through the night.”

Veterinarian Dr. Zachary Franklin tends to Susie, the rescued paint mare.

“I would like to thank people from all over the U.S. and the world who have been touched by these two horses,” stated Jeanette Jordan, president/executive director of South Florida SPCA.  “Justice is doing well.  We will continue to fight for Susie’s life for as long as she has the will to live and the spirit that she continues to show.”

Both horses have a long road ahead of them as they recover, especially Susie who has a large gaping wound on her flank.

Donations to help offset the cost of Justice’ and Susie’s treatment and recovery can be made to www.crowdrise.com/paintbucket.
