Homestead, FL (April 10, 2015): During an investigation of a SW Miami-Dade residence by Customs and Border Protection along with Miami-Dade Police Department’s Agricultural Patrol during the evening of Thursday, April 9, two horses were discovered in the home’s back yard. One appeared to have been deceased for some time (click here for photo), while the other horse was found extremely emaciated.
The surviving horse was brought to the South Florida SPCA’s ranch in Homestead last night. The horse has been identified as Rey Midas de Monteverde, 2005 U.S. Reserve National Champion Paso Fino. (View pedigree.)

“This horse is about 200 pounds underweight, measuring a one or possibly two on the body condition scale, nine being extremely obese and one being emaciated,” said Laurie Waggoner, SFSPCA’s director of ranch operations.
